Vented & Un-vented Cylinders

At DPD Plumbing & Heating Services we offer advice and fitting service for both vented and unvented cylinders.

What is the difference?

Unvented cylinders are used to supply hot water at mains pressure. The advantage is you get a powerful shower without the expense and noise of a power pump, baths fill faster and you don't have 50 to 100 gallons of cold water stood in the loft. As the un-vented cylinder is filled directly from the mains water supply, they are only suitable for properties where the incoming water supply has good flow & pressure.

Vented Cylinders

A vented hot water cylinder is supplied by a cold water tank at a higher level and has an open vent pipe taken to above this tank. The pressure in the cylinder is never greater than that imposed by the head of water from the cold water storage tank.
